The first question I will often ask a new client is; what is really important to you?
Let me repeat that…what is REALLY important to you?
Not just the superficial stuff but the stuff deep down inside you. What makes you tick?
What I have found, interestingly enough is that when most people look at their inner most thoughts the inherent theme or answer I get is “I want to make a difference.” Why is that? I believe we want to make a difference during our time here on the Earth because we all want & need to have a purpose.
We were designed, every single one of us, to have a purpose.
So without a purpose what do we have?
I have been researching a lot lately about ways to improve my clients adherence to choosing a healthier & better life for themselves & I soon came to realise a few shocking statistics.
The latest findings from the 2014 Australian Bureau of statistics are as follows;
Among those aged 15 to 44, the leading causes of death were intentional self-harm (suicide) & among people who died between 15 and 44 years of age, 69.8% of deaths were considered to be potentially avoidable in 2014.
Hang on so more than ½ of all deaths in this age group are preventable??? Sorry but this is so wrong & we need to change this stat. This should be everyone’s purpose.
I am going to open up here & tell you a bit about my own journey as I believe this creates change in our world. Speaking up & having a voice will ultimately lower this statistic.
I grew up in an environment where making money and being “successful” had a lot of emphasis placed on it which is not a bad thing by any means & has been a driving force to achieving so many of the things I have today so I am grateful for that, however, as I have aged, I have come to realise we must look at all things in balance.
The above really molded my identity as a child. I truly believed the more accolades I got I would finally achieve happiness. Boy was that a warped and destructive mindset to have.
As a result I spent nearly the first ¼ of my life completely self-absorbed chasing a lot of “dreams” with really no sense of contentment or peace when I reached them. I had a turning point in my life where I did not get satisfaction from my over achieving ways anymore & was questioning what my whole purpose was meant to be. Needless to say this was not a great place to be…
In recent years I have had a few light-bulb moments where I thought “maybe if I take the focus off myself for a bit, stop being so darn self-absorbed & truly 100% devote my time to helping others then maybe I will find peace…” & you know what it worked! But I first had to find my inner peace & let go of my over achieving ways.
To do this I had to stop being so hard on myself & get healthy…
Sounds ironic seeing I had been in the health & fitness game for a few years before I started to change my ways but what I mean by getting “healthy” is that I needed to stop looking at the superficial appearance & look at how being healthy made me feel.
After my many years in the fitness world & many body sculpting achievements later, I wanted to make a real difference in the health & fitness industry. For me personally and as a brand I started to focus less on glamorous fitness model photos & more on educating & inspiring my clients to lasting change. I focused less on outward appearance & more on the overall health of my body.
Interestingly enough when I focused on these things a strange thing happened. I looked even better than what I did when I was trying so hard to look a certain way for my shows. By focusing on getting healthy hormone balance after many years of tough body sculpting diets I am actually now more pleased with my body in my mid 30’s.
I am also more content. I have a new found passion for helping people find their purpose which I believe starts with making healthy choices. Having a purpose, whether it’s to be a better role model for your children, be the type of person people just want to be around or simply being a good influence on your peers is all gold in a world of so much despair.
In the “lucky” country where 69.8% of deaths are avoidable at the ages where we should be in our prime is disturbing. Not just that, it’s intolerable. We need to change this as a nation, we really do. If you want to find a purpose for yourself starting today make it a goal to help others. Any way you can.
I know each & every one of you have a story, perhaps a story of redemption, one of restoration or simply just finding your own way in the world. I would love to hear about it. Have a great Saturday Shredders. It’s a little rainy up here on the coast today so Bambi & I will be having a little movie day I think :)
Yours in hormone health & fitness,
